Anticonvulsant, tranquilizer, muscle relaxant for Canines, Felines, Equinos
Formula | Every ml contains:
Diazepam …………………… 5.0 mg
Indications / Uses:
Tranquilizer for handling excited animals. Muscle relaxant.
Anticonvulsant while in status epilepticus in which a benzodiazepine (diazepam) should be used in the first place for a quick change in the therapeutic approach.
Administration and dosage:
In status epilepticus by IV:
Canines: 0.5 – 2.0 mg per kg. Then is added by infusion of 5.0 to 20.0 mg per kg per hour.
Felines: 0.5 – 2.0 mg per kg.
In foals with poor neonatal adjustment syndrome: 5.0 to 20.0 mg per dose.
In adult horses with seizures: 0.1 – 0.15 mg per kg.
Contraindications / Precautions:
Should not be used simultaneously with other central depressants because they maximize their effects, neither in animals with respiratory depression or cardiac arrhythmia.
